2025 Forecast: Key Trends Shaping the Year Ahead

Words by Valery Stoianova

So we’ve stepped into 2025! As we move further into the post-pandemic era, fashion is shaping up to be a powerful statement of both revival and reinvention. It is time to make a bold comeback with sharp distinctive silhouettes with a touch of 90’s nostalgia. Since last year, our collective yearning for change and liberation has been reflected in the fashion world. What trends and accessories will be in hot demand on the fashion Olympus? Let’s predict together!

Villain Era with Three-Piece Suits

This trend will be essential throughout 2025. A three-piece suit with a cravat is quite a decent combination to balance femininity and masculinity in the outfit.

Anthony Vaccarello’s recent collections at Saint Laurent have reinvigorated the sharp tailoring and high-octane glamour that typifies the Villain Era. “It’s about revisiting the classics but with a sense of empowerment,” Vaccarello explains. “Fashion should make you feel like you’re stepping into a role, and this suit is your armour.”

You could add the bomber jacket to refresh this outfit and make it more modern. If you pair it with a structured coat – mafia and villain vibes come to the group chat immediately.

We have to thank Saint Laurent for reviving these sharply tailored silhouettes and reconnecting with the brand’s roots. To dive deeper into this aesthetic, explore not only Saint Laurent’s current show but also their archives and Prada’s 2012 collection.

Bohemian Vibes and Leather

In a world that’s been heavy with uncertainty, fashion is returning to a sense of lightness. After a few challenging years filled with dark tones, soft pastels – blush pink, tranquil pistachio, serene peach – have flooded the runways. Aquatic themes are gaining popularity, with marine-inspired colors taking center stage. This tendency is noticeable in quite a few brands such as Bottega Veneta, Chloe, Loewe, and Ann Demeulemeester.

Expect blouses with jabot collars, flowing skirts, dresses, and playful flirtations with Rococo aesthetics and Bohemian chic for the spring and summer seasons.

Overly feminine Boho style can always be balanced with a rugged leather bomber, pair of Dr Martens or wide-leg jeans worn under the dress. Such a combination is called “Moto Boho” and due to official Pinterest predictions, it is going to take place as one of the most popular trends. For inspiration, take a look at the Chloe 2025 collection.

Belts

This year, belts will become much more than just a functional accessory for holding up your trousers. Don’t stop at just one belt—buy five! Layer them over skirts, bags, or tops. Try different fabrics, don’t stop only on leather ones. At Prada, you could even notice printed belts on the trousers. At JW Anderson’s Spring/Summer 2025 show, belts were tied at the bottom of jeans.

Why do we have such a tendency?

  1. It’s a bright accent and is easy to add.
  2. The popularity of baggy and low-waisted trousers, where a belt is almost a necessity. Belts allow you to showcase your funky side, add an ironic twist to the outfit, or underline the formality of the meeting with just one belt.

Suede

This material made a comeback in autumn 2024 and will stay relevant for a while. A variety of colours might come into play but natural tones – brown, beige, and ochre are still the most popular due to Prada, Miu Miu and Saint Laurent.

Suede items always add complexity to an outfit, so using them as accents could be the right choice to start. Think of a short suede skirt paired with a trench coat and a wool jumper. Or perhaps straight-cut suede trousers with patent loafers and ironic socks with fun prints on them.

Suede jackets will remain a staple addition to wardrobes, and most importantly, a practical one. The big plus of the natural suede is that it only improves with age as leather itself. You can often find suede items in vintage stores. Often you could find suede items in vintage stores. It is a nice opportunity not only due to the lower price of the piece, but talking about conscious consumption it’s much better to give a second life to the vintage item. So hunting for unique, high-quality pieces on the resale market might be worth it.

Asymmetry and the ‘90s

Asymmetry is a simple yet effective way to add a touch of sophistication and uniqueness to the outfit. One-shoulder designs, the draped fabric falling naturally at the side, and subtle diagonal elements in a look – are just a few examples of how you could use the trend. These features, heavily inspired by the ‘90s, will remain a focal point throughout the year. Items like these are already widely available in mass-market stores, and they’re here to stay. For inspiration, revisit Buffy the Vampire Slayer – an iconic TV show with a full ‘90s aesthetics experience. Some outfits from the show could seamlessly fit into your wardrobe today, especially when paired with modern accessories.

Peep-Toes

Now here’s a comeback we certainly didn’t expect – peep-toe heels. At Miu Miu’s latest show, most outfits were paired with this style of footwear, and thanks to the wave of nostalgia, we’re likely to see this trend go viral on social media and gain a new lease on life.

Peep-toe shoes transport us back to the era of Gossip Girl and Serena van der Woodsen. Considering how society is currently reflecting on the brightness of those years, it’s no surprise that this accent will become a hot trend in 2025.

To give it a touch of modern life, try to combine peep-toe shoes with a sporty bomber jacket or something from a different style.

Business Core

The business aesthetic will be quite popular in 2025. As we are getting outside more often and people are happy to get rid of COVID memories, fluffy pyjamas are staying at home. It’s time to get a bit smarter and formal.

Max Mara, Ralph Laurent, Gucci, and Balenciaga have items with office work vibes on their runways. Fitted silhouettes are appearing more frequently compared to previous years.

Business Core features more structured silhouettes, muted colour palettes, and, above all, an air of industrious ambition. It’s the kind of style that makes you want to grab a double espresso and get down to business 24/7.

So, the forecast for this year is various and there are plenty of ideas on how to express yourself.

We are continuing to move further away from the post-COVID era. Every hot trend this year speaks about changes. The pandemic pushed us toward comfort-first clothing, but designers are now encouraging a reimagining of pre-pandemic styles, striving for some balance between comfort and beauty. And it’s not only them who are eager for such changes. People are tired of pyjamas and sporty clothes, so now it is time for sharp silhouettes. But your uniqueness is always the most stylish part. Create your own fashion story this year.
